About Me
My Story
I was born and raised in east Africa where I was raised speaking 4 languages. I grew up in an artistic family, my maternal grand mother was an actress that acted in the very first Burundian long movie, and my maternal grand father was a designer. My little brother is a musician and designer as well. I started doing Theater at school when I was in third grade. When I was in high school I joined a theater group with my brothers. I won the award for best actress of the year twice (2011 & 2013) at the FESTICAB movie festival in Burundi. The movie that I acted in when I won actress of the year in 2011, L’Avortement, also won awards for best actor and best short movie. It was bought by Canal France International to be played on their channel. I attended Festival International des Films d’Amour de Mons in Belgium and I was a part of their cinema Class.
I moved to the USA in October 2014, and am now ready to chase my acting dream.
I love traveling, cooking and learning new languages, I can now speak 7 languages fluently. I have been working with Kentucky Refugee Ministries as one of their interpreters and translators since 2015. I have a bridging the gap certificate for medical translation and I have done translation work with Bluegrass Health Care and Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY.
When I was little I was fascinated about being behind a microphone at a radio station. I had favorite radio shows that I listened to and would call to answer trivia questions and win prizes. When I was in the 9th grade I started doing voice over commercials, and I started a radio host job when I was a freshman in college. When I moved to the US, I was offered an opportunity to do a radio show on a local radio station. I decided I wanted to talk about Africa and educate people about my beautiful home continent, because a lot of people I came across would think that Africa was a country, or that Africa was only good for safaris. I record my show in different languages, and occasionally feature guests to discuss topics related to Africa, and play African music. While recording my show at the station I also broadcast over the internet through Instagram and Facebook Live so that people from outside the local area can listen as well.
In 2019 I was presented with the opportunity to apply to be a Refugee Delegate in the US Refugee Congress, and I was honored to be given the position of Kentucky Delegate. I have been able to help Refugees and Asylum seekers with different resources. It’s one of the things that I do with so much pride because I know how it feels to have someone helping you away from home.
