I have been a fan of Sauti Sol for many years. When I started dating my husband, I introduced him to the band and he was hooked lol. He loves their song Suzana and he sometimes plays it on his guitar 🎸
I did not get a chance to see them when they first came to the US, and when they announced that they are touring for the last time before they separate, I knew I have to see them. I missed all the concerts they had scheduled in the US due to my job schedule, but I said I will go see them by any means necessary. My plan A failed but I have a whole alphabet to plan around, it was time to go to plans B, C, D, and all the way to Z. I was ready to create more letters If I needed to, that’s just how dedicated I was to go see them.
I planned a trip to the UK, but it was not near the date their concert was scheduled there. I looked up other concerts they had in Europe, and the one in Paris matched my schedule so I didn’t think twice, I went ahead and purchased our ticket, and booked us our flights and hotel.
And like y’all already know, they never disappoint and gave us the best concert of all time! After the concert, your girl needed a picture with at least one or two of the Sauti Sol singers.
They had all of us leave the concert hall after the show ended. There was a security guard at the door, but I managed to talk him into letting me back in. It was not easy convincing him, but your girl pulled all her bargaining skills and he let me and my husband in.
The first Sauti Sol member I got to see was Bienaimé, he was so cool, and like two proud Burundians we got to talk about all the great and amazing things we have in the country, especially le fameux Mukeke 😋. Then Fancy came along, and he made us feel like we’d been friends for years! We took pictures and videos, and they made my flight to Paris to see them worth every single penny.
Cheers 🥂 to Sauti Sol: the best East African band we could ever dream of.
