Meet the squad (from right to left): The quiet sassy/don’t try me, Sis Nina. The planner/the mastermind, Me. The GPS/comedian, Antoinette. The accommodation specialist/shangazi, Josephine. And finally, the guest, Marlene aka grandma(She asked if she could be a part of our next girls trip and I said that she could join us).
It all started when Josephine saw me doing a solo trip in 2019 when I originally planned a trip with some friends, and they all backed out at the last minute. That was my very first time traveling to a country where I didn’t know anyone and didn’t meet any friends while I was there. I normally travel to a place where I either know someone, I am meeting friends, or I have been there before.
So, when I came back from my solo trip she told me, “Girl I like your determination,
I have never seen a person planning a trip with people and still go through with it after everyone else backed out and they still had a blast.” She then added, “can we go together next time you travel?” I said absolutely.
Last year, a couple months prior to my wedding, I introduced an idea of doing a girl’s trip to my sis Nina, Josephine, Antoinette and some other female friends. A lot of them said yes at first then changed their minds down the road and only 4 girls (Sis Nina, Antoinette, Josie and I) ended up going to Las Vegas.
I planned everything, from when we need to leave to where we will stay, all the tours, and where to eat. All the girls had to do was to show up and have fun. After the Las Vegas trip we agreed that we will need to do a girls trip every year.
This year in March 2022, I texted the girls and I told them “Divas, we are going to New Orleans this May…” They all said say no more. I started putting everything together as the perfect planner that I am (they named me the planner 😅).
If you have seen any of my social media accounts, you already know that I love anything about beaches, boats, and planes. When we got to New Orleans, I arranged for us to have a boat tour with dinner included and some live jazz band playing. One of the waiters came to us to compliment how great we looked and asked where we are from and I proudly said, “We are from Africa where beauty is from☺️”, the waiter then said, “I could tell y’all are from that beautiful continent, I want to go visit someday.” I then said, “Please do, you will love it, everything is beautiful, from people to the weather, the food to everything.”
After dinner we went out and there was a man who was performing freestyle on the street, and he was great at it! He would pick random lines based on something you would show him or something that he would notice about people passing by.
The next day we went to have brunch at The Court of Two Sisters, this place is beautiful from the main door to the last detail. Their food is bomb, the drinks taste amazing, the garden looks beautiful, you eat your brunch with a live jazz band playing, and it feels like you’re on another planet.
After brunch we visited different stores and checked out different things in the French Quarter. Later that night we had dinner at Broussard, which is a place I would not recommend to anyone. It’s fancy and pricey for nothing! Service was poor, the place looked very unclean, the food was awful, and dessert was worse than a joke!
After that unpleasant experience we went to this Afribeat club, and the atmosphere was amazing. We got in there and had that place our fire, it got to the point where we could request songs back-to-back (that’s how lit we turned that place), and both Josie and I almost lost our voices.
On Sunday we had breakfast next to Café du Monde and of course went to Café du Monde to get the famous beignets. The line was super long, but it was worth it because those beignets are just so yummy! We then went back to French Quarter and stopped by a few bars. Whenever we travel I always come up with this silly idea where we have to celebrate something, my fake birthday! In one of the bars that we went to Marlene went over and told the MC it was my birthday, and we ended up getting 6 free shots (Josie and Antoinette had them because I don’t drink alcohol).
Later that night we went to R’evolution Restaurant, and I kid you not this is a great spot to go when you are in New Orleans! The restaurant has an antique European decor, the food was breathtaking, the service was fast, and the servers were so friendly. We had an amazing time dining there. We later went out to check on the same free style man on the street then went back to the hotel.
On Monday we all went to have a Swedish massage and it was the best way to spend a last day in New Orleans! Those massage people hit all the right spots and they knew what they were doing. New Orleans was amazing to us and now I can’t wait for next year’s girls trip!
I like you
